Supporting Sustainable Agriculture in the Ibar Basin

Within the framework of the project Improving Good Agricultural Practices in Support of Integrated Management of Water Resources in Kosovo (IWRM-K) – Phase 2, IADK has started an analysis to identify the sectors farmers with high development potential, as well as those who can present challenges or contribute to the pollution of the Ibar River basin.

The team is conducting an analysis inclusive in all 14 municipalities of the Ibar river basin, being Focused on five main crops: apples, plums, walnuts, raspberries, and potatoes. So far, 209 farmers from these municipalities have been included, of whom detailed data are collected on the condition of crops, current practices of production, as well as the use of fertilizers and plant protection products.

This data is essential for identifying agricultural sectors that require targeted support, especially in improving water use efficiency, reducing unnecessary use of pesticides and fertilizers, as well as the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.

IADK, in cooperation with the program IWRM-K will work with farmers to promote and implement practices and advanced production technologies that enable efficient and the sustainability of water, fertilizers, and pesticides, with the aim of protecting the ecosystem and the promotion of sustainable and long-term agriculture.

"This project/activity is supported by Integrated Water Resources Management in Kosovo (IWRM-K), Program of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the Government of Kosovo, implemented by Skat Consulting Ltd. (Switzerland) in consortium with the Austrian Environment Agency (EAA).
