Unemployment and income generation continue to be among the main challenges in the country. Addressing these challenges requires commitment and will from the main actors involved in agricultural development. Fortunately, Kosovo has all the conditions for agricultural development; these opportunities are best utilized by the Kajtazi family with the head of the household Ilaz Kajtazi from the Municipality of Skënderaj, village Klinë e Mesme.
Years ago, Ilazi had migrated to Germany with the aim of improving the living conditions for his family. Life away from his family was difficult for him, so he decided to return to Kosovo. After returning, in 2017 he made modest investments in building a small greenhouse for flower cultivation, working together with his wife in the production of seasonal flowers with a quantity of 2,000 flowers.
The Kajtazi family aimed to become a leader in flower cultivation, aiming to increase production, the variety of flowers, and to enter the market as early as possible. Achieving these goals was a challenge for them, as limited financial means and lack of equipment did not allow it.
The Kajtazi family has been supported within the framework of the repatriation project, funded by the German GIZ, with an investment grant at the farmer's request, support with central heating for the greenhouse, sufficient for the greenhouse area. Today, the Kajtazi family, through their business and the rational use of heating, advice, and visits received, manages to produce and sell around 20,000 flowers, mostly seasonal ones. As a family, we work in flower cultivation; sometimes we have sales close to 300 euros per day, says one of the family members who works in the greenhouse. The income allows us to have a better life.
