IADK activates 3 40m² thermal dryers that save up to 70% energy

The medicinal and aromatic plants sector is one of the most attractive agricultural sectors in Kosovo, where most products are exported as organic to European Union countries. IADK is continuously committed to supporting MAP collection points and cultivating and gathering farmers to increase economic development, improve production, and improve the quality of products exported to the European Union.

Out of the 5 supported MAP thermal dryers/collection points for 40m², technical acceptance has been completed for 3 40m² thermal dryers and the dryers have been put into operation for these beneficiaries, while the commissioning of the other dryers for the beneficiaries will be completed very soon.

The thermal dryers built by the supported beneficiaries have a drying surface area of 40m2, modern dryers, and will contribute to environmental preservation, energy savings of up to 70%, and will meet the drying needs of MAP growers and collectors.

These dryers are equipped with a reservoir for storing hot water, an appropriate boiler, an exchanger for efficient energy use, and a data logger for temperature and humidity of the MAP drying. The dryers are built by the local company Osa Termosistem.

This activity will contribute to stabilizing the MAP sector, improving dried products, product consistency and sustainability, and increasing MAP exports. It will also promote the growth of MAP growers and collectors, including marginalized groups, women, returnees, farmers living in difficult economic conditions, and minorities.

As part of its support, IADK will offer advice and training to collection points and their client farmers from its experts, who will help increase productivity and quality.

The call for applications is open, and interested parties can apply to the project for support.

This activity was carried out within the framework of the project "Supporting the BMA value chain through job creation and export continuation," supported by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, mandated by the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
