Supporting Sustainable Agriculture in the Iber River Basin
As part of the Enhancing Good Agricultural Practices in Support of Integrated Water Resources Management in Kosovo (IWRM-K) Phase 2, IADK has launched an analysis to identify agricultural sectors with the highest growth potential, as well as those that may pose challenges or contribute to pollution in the Iber River Basin.
Team is conducting a comprehensive analysis of all 14 municipalities within the Iber River Basin, focusing on five key crops: apples, plums, walnuts, raspberries, and potatoes. To date, we are engaging with 209 farmers across these municipalities to collect detailed information on crop conditions, current production practices, and the use of fertilizers and plant protection products.
These data are essential for identifying the agricultural sectors that need targeted support, particularly in improving water-use efficiency, reducing unnecessary use of pesticides and fertilizers, and promoting sustainable farming practices.
IADK, in cooperation with the IWRM-K program, will work directly with farmers to promote and implement advanced production practices and technologies that support the efficient and sustainable use of water, fertilizers, and pesticides, with the aim of protecting river ecosystems and promoting long-term agricultural sustainability.
